Silver Gull
Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae

Having read reports on Bird Chat about the sightings of a Silver Gull, I drove to Pennsville, New Jersey on November 10, 1996 and proceeded to Riverview Beach Park. As promised, the gull was easily found and most cooperative - it allowed a close approach.

This bird is a native of Australia and New Zealand and there is some question about the "countability" of this bird. There is, however, no doubt that this is a truly beautiful gull and well worth the trip to see it - countable or not. Sorry to say that the pictures do not show the true brightness of the red in the bill, legs, and eye ring
