Cape Cod 2003

Saturday, August 30
Another early start in order to get to Provincetown for a whale watch. It was quite hazy as we drove up and we were having doubts about the visibility for the whale watch. Even so, the drive was quite pleasant as we passed the dunes and ponds. Saw lots of Tree Swallows along the way. We had signed up for a 9:00 a.m. trip and were told to get there before 8:30, but wanted to get there earlier so we could have breakfast at Twomey's Irish Pub where we had eaten last year. We arrived before the restaurant was open so we walked around the town a little and got a cup of coffee.

Foggy morning at Provincetown Harbor We walked around the harbor and marveled at how still the water was. A good sign considering the rough waters we had experienced the day before. The fog was still worrisome.
A Common Eider was swimming quite close to the dock but I had left my teleconverter back in the car. I went to get it, but naturally the duck had moved further away by the time I returned. We had no idea what the building was or why it had the pictures on it, but we found it quite interesting. I also enjoyed looking at the colorful boats—the older the better. It was now almost 8 and we stopped at the whale watch line to get our tickets; they asked if we wanted to go on an earlier sailing and we said "No" because breakfast beckoned. Back to Twomey's where Joan had Eggs Benedict; she opted to have the "regular" version rather than one with lobster. I had an Irish breakfast consisting of Limerick bacon, Mitchelstown sausages, grilled tomatoes, eggs, and home fries. Yum!
