Fidel Castro would address crowds of over 1,000,000 at the Plaza de la Revolución. During one speech, he asked Camilo Cienfuegos, a Cuban Revolutionary hero, how he was doing. Cienfuegos' reply "Vas bien, Fidel" (You’re doing fine, Fidel) became a famous quotation.

Che Guevara's stencil image appears on the Ministry of the Interior building in the Plaza de la Revolución. The quotation accompanying it, "Hasta la Victoria Siempre" (Until the Everlasting Victory, Always), comes from Che's farewell address.
