Pacific Northwest 2000

Thursday, August 24, continued
Later in the day, we went to Nairn Falls Provincial Park—another very pretty place. The walk along the trail to the falls was beautiful (I seem to use that word a lot in describing the trip). Various types of trees, patterns of greens and browns. Amazing textures. The river water was blue from glacial silt. Very nice. Along the way, I slipped and fell but there was no apparent damage. Later, I twisted my ankle—it hurt for a few days when my shoe was off but I didn't let it stop me. Also, strained my knee which was better by the next day.

As we approached, the falls sounded like thunder. Very, very nice. We had separated from Joan's family and walked to an area down along the stream to get a better view of the falls. The falls were not high but the power, volume, and speed of the water and the spray that filled the air were thrilling. IMPRESSIVE!

Joan spotted an American Dipper—I was lucky to have her find a number of good things for me (and lucky just to have her company). I found that I was using the word "WOW" quite a bit as we walked along. When Joan and I got back to our car, we discovered that Joan's family was gone. We decided to drive back to the lodge. Along the way, Joan noticed something written on the windshield. It seems one of her sisters had written a note in the dust on the windshield. By the time we saw it, the bulk of the note had disappeared. We continued back to the lodge where Joan and I went into the hot tub and soaked and soaked and soaked. The property bordered the golf course and the tub was just a few feet from it—we watched some really terrible golfers—one of them took five strokes to go about fifty yards. Also, heard some choice language from another golfer.

Joan's family did not come back for hours—the note that we couldn't read said they had gone to another town where, among other things, they went raspberry picking. Turns out they had left the waterfall area parking lot only five minutes before we got back to it. Still, it was good to be back as the soaking in the hot tub was good for my assorted aches and pains.
